Pappajohn. 65, who grew up in Mason City and is now a Des Moines venture capitalist and philanthropist, made a $4 million contribution to help fund the project. The building opened for classes in January. The 187,000-square-foot facility was made possible through the issuance of $24 million in state revenue bonds approved by the Iowa legislature in 1990 and contributions from 2,000 alumni and other donors. "To help provide a new home for the College of Business Administration was an opportunity that I felt might never be repeated." Pappajohn U of I graduate, said in a news release. "The University of Iowa is distinguished in so many fields, and this new building will, I believe, again put Iowa on the map-this time in management education. "I also believe the facility will have positive repercussions for the state's business community as a whole, attracting the best students to Iowa and helping keep them here after graduation." Covering most of a city block, the four-story Pappajohn Building is the largest academic structure on the campus and has received wide acclaim for its state-of-the-art technology. Designed by Architectural Resources Cambridge of Cambridge, Mass..and Neumann Monson-Architects of Iowa City, the building includes 14 classrooms, two auditoriums, a large business library and computer lab, facilities for executive-level education, and numerous conference and seminar rooms.
